|
| | 2005-02-23T09:26:45Z | | I just upgraded my copy of RSS Submit. It’s a neat little tool.
Submits to most RSS search engines automatically except for some which require logins and have to be submitted manually.
It really cuts down on the time required to submit RSS feeds.
See the company press notes about the software here:
k.soft releases RSS Submit - RSS feed promotion tool
k.soft announces the release of version 1.0 of RSS Submit, a utility to automatically submit RSS feeds to the RSS search engines and directories, for Windows 95/98/NT/ME/2000/XP.
As more web masters begin to incorporate blog and RSS feed technology to distribute their content, they may soon realize not enough readers know about their feeds.
RSS Submit is an automated software tool which submits RSS feeds to the RSS search engines and directories. Real-time status is displayed throughout the submittal process.
Once complete, the user may browse a listing of the result pages from each search engine, verifying their feed was successfully submitted. Submitting a feed to more than 25 RSS search engines can take less than one minute to complete.
RSS Submit also contains several features to make adding RSS feed URLs to the software easier.
The validation feature allows users to test their RSS feed for compliancy prior to submitting.
The auto-discovery feature allows users to enter a web page instead of a direct RSS feed URL and any linked feeds can be automatically added for submission.
Registered users of RSS Submit may add an unlimited number of RSS feeds for submission, unlock more RSS search engines, and receive upgrades to the latest version at no charge by using the update feature built into the software.
A fully functional demo is available to the public at http://www.dummysoftware.com/rsssubmit.html.
Program registration is US$24.95 and may be completed from the company’s web site.
| | 2005-02-09T22:09:51Z | | Thomas Pierce called it "the best book on RSS to hit the planet. This is the definitive guide on the marketing and publishing power of RSS."
What am I talking about?
It’s Rok Hrastnik’s comprehensive guide on RSS for publishers and marketers called “Unleash the Marketing & Publishing Power of RSS”
It will give you all the knowledge and expertise you need to successfully start using RSS, whether you are a small business marketer or a large publisher.
Here’s what the sales letter says:
Unlike most material available on RSS on the market right now, the "Unleash the Marketing & Publishing Power of RSS" takes RSS to the edge, giving you the knowledge, expertise and advice to outperform any competitor, even if you have been publishing with RSS for the past few years.
Topics, such as RSS metrics, RSS customization, RSS one-to-one communication, RSS autoresponders, affiliate-powered RSS and many more, are presented here for the first time.
Rok Hrastnik, the author of the e-book, has been exploring RSS since 2003, and the company he served as their Internet Manager, the business daily Finance (the first Slovenian business daily), was one of the first in the world to implement RSS customization.
Rok joins his RSS expertise with his experience as a direct marketer (being the e-commerce manager for Studio Moderna, the leading direct marketing company in Central and Eastern Europe, present in 19 countries), to bring you the best in marketing and publishing with RSS.
I bought it a while ago, but because I’m still busy reading Thomas Pierce’s How To Blog package and a few other business blogging books, I haven’t got down to reading it yet.
But there’s one thing I can say for certain – its HUGE!
There are three PDF’s – the long version (344 pages), the short (!) version (269 pages), and the 34 interviews with RSS experts and marketing interviews with some of the best RSS minds and thought-leaders of 2005 (219 pages).
It’s a LOT of reading, certainly not for those who are not seriously planning to use RSS as a publisher and marketer. In that case you might be better off with buying an ebook like Tinu Abayomi Paul’s Marketing Success With RSS , Paul Short’s RSS Exposed or Adrian Ling’s RSS Made Easy.
But if you are serious about publishing with RSS, then Unleash the Marketing & Publishing Power of RSS is one tome that should definitely be on your shelf.
At just $49.95, I believe it’s seriously underpriced, but I’m not complaining.
So what are you waiting for? Go pick up a copy for yourself now!

God, I Love RSS!! And I'm saying this as a reader, not a publisher.
Let me count the reasons:
1. No spam
2. No ads (yet)
3. No more clutter in my inbox
4. No more inbox taking up MBs of data on my hard drive
5. No more saving newsletters to "read later" that I know will just clutter up aforementioned inbox and probably never get read (or even deleted)
6. No more taking ages just to download email with loads of huge images and HTML that clog up my ultra-slow connection
7. Being able to go and catch up on my favourite newsletters or blogs anytime I feel like it - just like relaxing and reading a newspaper
Can you add any more reasons here? Maybe we can make this the longest "Why I Love RSS" list there is ;)

| | 2004-12-04T05:22:40Z | | This article from Clickz.com talks about the challenges publishers and marketers face while switching from email to RSS as a mode of publishing.
If you are concerned about false positives, are serious about opt-in, and have content your customers or prospects want, take a look at RSS. The barriers to entry are low, and the potential return is high, says the author, Jeanne Jennings.
To get people to opt in to your marketing messages, must-read content is essential, she advises. Promising discounts and special promotions may work in some instances (consumer packaged goods and other frequent or repeat purchase items come to mind); in other cases you'll need more compelling messages to motivate readers to receive your RSS feed.
One of the best resources on using RSS in marketing is actually a free PDF report from MarketingStudies.net called The Marketer's Introduction to RSS Content Delivery Power, and it covers the following topics.
- What is the internet marketing reality of 2004?
- The Question of further e-mail usefulness
- The e-mail delivery model
- Is RSS the solution?
- Will RSS replace e-mail?
- What RSS actually is?
- How RSS works?
- Key benefits of using RSS
- Key Disadvantages of using RSS
- The RSS push vs pull
- Key RSS business uses

| | 2004-12-04T05:20:39Z | | If you're short of cash and need to build your own RSS feeds, here are some free tools yu can use.
They might now have ll the bells and whistles of FeedForAll and NewzAlert Composer but they will do what you need.
RSS Builder is an easy to use service to create RSS feeds for your web site. It provides a simple interface that lets you add topics, links and content, and then publish the RSS (v2.0) feed to your web server with one click! This service is absolutely free of charge.
RSS Headliner will also help you create an RSS feed. First select how many headlines you want your feed to have. Then fill in the form with links, titles and descriptions. Click on the "Make the Code" button. Then click on the "what does it look like button" to preview your headlines. That all it takes!
The ListGarden RSS Feed Generator Program is a tool for manually creating and maintaining RSS feeds. The resulting XML file may be stored locally or automatically copied to a remote web server using FTP. ListGarden can produce an optional companion HTML file for human browsers to read. It also has basic list-maintenance functions making it useful as a simple list manager. The RSS XML and HTML files can be uploaded to any web storage.

| | 2004-11-29T07:35:08Z | | Just came across a new program that helps you put together your own RSS feed. It costs less than FeedForAll, but I'm still testing it, so I'll update this post when I know how it works better. Here's a description of what it does.
NewzAlert Composer is a comprehensive tool for creating and publishing RSS feeds, and it's all you need to get up and running with one or more RSS feeds of your own.
NewzAlert Composer gets you up and running with your own RSS feeds within minutes. It brings together the editing and publishing of all your RSS feeds into one convenient place on your desktop.
