What PR has to do with SEO

Forget Google, Build a Brand

I wrote an article this week about the rush to hire SEO’s and SEM’s and my strong belief that a requirement of good SEO is an understanding of PR basics.

Building good content, a great brand and strong relationships will also get you good search rankings.

Then I saw the interview with John Scott of V7n in the Search Engine Journal  -

"For years I’ve been preaching marketing and brand building as opposed to obsessing over search engine rankings. Forget Google and build a legitimate brand."

He was being interviewed about his cool organic SEO contest. See the rules

It will be interesting to see who wins this contest - and whether they get the rankings by applying his ideas to SEO.

Taking the standard PR approach is what gets stable rankings for our clients, among other good PR results. It is not a quick fix, but it is a long term viable strategy.

This is the basis of my presentation at SES New York on Feb 28th in the news search panel.
