Why take the long way round and hope the right person will read your message - Use a blog

>>The tried and true marketing and PR departments may one day make the endangered species list thanks to a rush of corporate interest in blogs and RSS feeds.>> Internet News

Pretty harsh words.

Businesses have cottoned on to the fact that blogging and news feeds are gathering momentum and popularity fast.

Even some of the Fortune 100 have seen the light. Major IT players have their hats in the ring early. One of the largest projects is Microsoft's Channel 9 - approved by Gates.

When your can get your information out to your chosen audience directly and in a format they perfer, do you still need a full blown marketing and PR department? Isn't the point of PR and marketing to get your message to targeted thought leaders in your defined market?

If blogs are catching on, and thought leaders/early adopters are the ones reading blogs, then the via of get the data to a journalist, hoping that they print it, hoping that the right thought leaders read it..... no longer makes much sense.

A to B is much faster and more effective. Blogs will do it for you.
